Death: The Ultimate Motivator

Death is one of those things many of us are afraid of on some level. In fact, looking back on my childhood, I can remember laying in bed fearful of death. To clarify, I didn’t overly obsess over it. I also spent time worrying that robbers were going to break into my house. Now that I think of it, I guess I was kind of a scared child. It worked out in the end though because it was through my fear of death that I gained an appreciation of life.
Death can be a great motivator to live. Recognizing that our time will eventually run out can help remind us that we need to get the most out of it. I’m reminded of something Jim Rohn once said, “Most people are trying to get through the day, sophisticated people learn how to get from the day.” We need to learn how to get the most out of our time because it’s only through effective use of our time that we’ll be able to turn our dreams into reality.
When you think about it, time is really the major resource that we’re dealing with when it comes to achieving our goals. However, unlike many other things in life, time left unused is lost. Our job then is to figure out how to make a wise investment of our time today so that we may have richer fuller lives tomorrow.
