Failure is Not an Option- It is the Only Option

For many people failure is not an option, but if you want to be successful it’s often the only option. You can spend your life like most, trying to avoid failure at all costs. Or you can recognize that success is achieved by navigating through failure, not around it.
The only way to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for achieving your goals is to regularly step outside of your comfort zone. This means that you’re going to fail from time to time. That’s unavoidable, but it doesn’t mean you should be careless and throw caution to the wind. Failure may be a part of the journey, but there are still certain mistakes that you can’t come back from. Step in front of a moving bus, for instance, and that could be it- game over.
Fortunately, most of the mistakes people encounter on a regular basis aren’t so permanent. They’re what some would call temporary setbacks. In many cases, though, they aren’t even really setbacks at all. Because with each failure comes a lesson, and it’s often this lesson which is needed in order to keep moving forward.
Many who set out to accomplish their goals with a do or die, failure is not an option, mentality are usually very ambitious and determined. As determined as they are, the problem is too often they downplay the amount of struggle and failure they’re going to face along the way. Something Robert Herjavec once said might help put things in perspective, “I think in business you face far more failure than you face success. People always want to talk about the success […] and the good days. Well in business it rains far more than the sun shines.”
All of this might sound rather negative, but once you accept that failure is not something you can avoid, it becomes clear that failure is not an option. It is in fact, the only option and although the road to success is paved with failure, at least it’s paved. Stay on the road and let the lessons you learn from your failures give you the traction you need to keep moving forward.
